Mother of Monsters, 2015. Single screen video installation, 6 min. 39 sec.
Mother of Monsters was part of the duo show TURBID WAKE, An exhibition in Project Space D7, Copenhagen, with Kaare Golles.
Turbid Wake is a transient condition. The track of a vessel – thick with suspended matter, full of confusion and disorder.
The show emerged from a shared fascination for the 19th century classic Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Ideas revolve around ”mystic" and "mythical" imagery within the primordial world of cosmic evolution.
In Mother of Monsters we peer into an infinite void of darkness. Quivering eyes observe from this glossy black space just as they do when you swirl down a continual stream of data and selfies—between the unknown territories of islands glowing eerily in the dark. Almost as Marlow traveling up the Congo River deeper and deeper into the heart of darkness itself, spied on from the impenetrable jungle behind thick fog, surrounded by the trembling of distant foreign noises, eerie, alluring and evocative.
